Traveller Registration & the Tourist Tax in Málaga.
What the law requires of tourist accommodation — and what Logianta handles for you.
Traveller registration through SES.HOSPEDAJES has been mandatory for all tourist accommodation in Spain since 2 December 2024, with a 24-hour window from check-in. The “tourist tax” is a separate matter: Andalusia, including Málaga, has no tourist tax in force today — unlike Catalonia or the Balearic Islands — though there is an active political debate about creating one. At Logianta we handle traveller registration automatically for every property we manage, so our owners never have to think about it.
What the law requires
- Mandatory since 2 December 2024 (Royal Decree 933/2021).
- Applies to hotels, tourist apartments, guesthouses, campsites and rural accommodation — without exception.
- 21 data fields per guest, reported within 24 hours of check-in.
- The acknowledgement of receipt must be kept for 3 years.
- The system cross-checks data with Airbnb and Booking automatically — non-reporting is detected quickly.

Note: In May 2026 the Supreme Court annulled the NRUA (a separate, nationwide register of leases). This does not affect the SES.HOSPEDAJES obligation, which remains fully in force.
Is there a tourist tax in Málaga?
Not yet. In June 2026, Málaga City Council formally asked the central government for authorisation to create one, with the idea of directing the proceeds to rental assistance — but nothing has been approved. We’ll update this guide as soon as a confirmed date exists.
