When Is the Best Time to Visit Málaga?

The short answer

There’s no single “best” time in Málaga — it depends on what you’re after. March–May and September–October give the best balance: pleasant weather (20–25°C) without the crowds and prices of July–August. June–August is high season — beach weather up to 31°C, but busier and pricier. November–February is low season: lower prices, mild days (11–15°C) and very little heavy rain — ideal if you value calm and budget over beach time.

Brian from Logianta puts it simply: September, October, November, March and April are when the weather isn’t extreme, tourism is low, dining is easier to get, and lodging is less expensive.

Real 2026 events that might overlap your trip

• Holy Week (Semana Santa) — 29 March to 5 April 2026. Processions fill the historic centre; check the route before crossing that area on those days.
• Málaga Fair (Feria) — 15 to 22 August 2026. Day and night fairs across the centre and fairgrounds; many businesses adjust their hours.
• Christmas lights on Calle Larios — switched on in late November, running until 6 January. Free, with a sound-and-light show several times a day.

A very Spanish detail: August holiday closures

It’s a local custom: many small, family-run businesses (the non-touristy ones) close for a week or two in August while staff take their holidays. If you visit that month, don’t be surprised to find your favourite neighbourhood bar or shop with a “closed for vacation” sign.
